Awathukee Farmer's Market

Johnnie and I went to the farmer's market at Warner and 48th today to get meat and fish from the fishhugger! The market was great. We didn't buy too much since most of our money was spoken for for meat and fish. I did buy some HUGE delicious cucumbers, and a couple heirloom tomatoes from a very nice farmer. He was so proud of his beautiful organic vegetables... for good reason!

Kenny (the fishhugger) was so nice! I told him how much money we wanted to spend and what we like, and he really hooked us up! He talked to us about the beef and fish, and gave us ideas for preparing them.

There are many advantages to grass fed beef. One of which is the E-coli count. Beef from grainfed animals has over 6,000,000 cells of E-coli per gram, while beef from grassfed animals has has less than 20,000 cells of E-coli per gram. Luckily, you are probably cooking your meat to a safe temperature, but 250,000 E-coli cells per gram from grainfed beef can still survive in our digestive track. No E-coli survives in our digestive track from grassfed beef. So I can even eat the ground beef raw if I'd like. :)
